Westbank Ques Foundation and Ground Zero Barbershop Give Over 80 Kids a Fresh Start to the School Year
The Westbank Ques Foundation hosted its annual Free Back to School Haircuts event on Sunday, August 2, 2026, at 1600 Franklin Street in Gretna. The event, held in partnership with Ground Zero Barbershop, gave more than 80 boys a fresh cut and a fresh start ahead of the new school year completely free of charge. From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., families arrived to a full slate of barber chairs, where barbers from Ground Zero Barbershop donated their time and skill to serve the community. The event reflects the Foundation’s continued commitment to preparing local youth to walk into the classroom looking and feeling their best.
“We offer to the parents to bring their kids in to freshen them up, get them ready for school, get them in that mindset. It is a big lift off the parents as well.” said John Morgan, Gamma Rho Chapter.
The Free Back to School Haircuts event is one of several Social Action initiatives foundations carries out each year in the Greater New Orleans area, alongside programs such as the Community Bridge Builders Golf Tournament, which funds the chapter’s Scholarship Program and Project Manhood Mentoring initiative throughout the year. The foundation extends its gratitude to the barbers of Ground Zero Barbershop, the barbers who cut hair during the event, and every family who came out to participate.
